Meet Bill and Marsi Speer

Bill Speer as been a Tbird club member for more than 8 years and has most recently served as vice president and now as director.

In 2015, he joined Chapter 24, Classic Thunderbirds of San Diego. As Director, he hopes to provide a bit of institutional memory (but only 8 years worth) and provide logistical support for activities scheduled in Coronado such as the MotorCars on Mainstreet Car Show in April, and the 4th of July parade..

Bill purchased his Thunderbird in early 2015, four months after joining CTSD. He says that he can’t remember a time he hasn’t wanted a Classic TBird.  Back in the mid-1980s, he joined CTCI (Member #24800), and bought all back issues of the Early Bird, the shop manual ,and all ancillary literature.  He and his wife Marsi wanted a ’56 because of the iconic port hole, Continental kit, and the 12-volt electrical system. (The 1955s rolled off the line as a 6-volt system.)  1956 is also the year he and Marsi were born, but he says the Bird is actually about 6 months older, having rolled off the assembly line in November 1955.

When he’s not T-birding, Bill is active with two local Scout units and has been a registered adult leader since 1997.  His two sons are Eagle Scouts.  He’s also an avid dart player, and enjoy his membership in Coronado’s Island Beer Club.

Bill is responsible for mailing the monthly newsletter, The Bird’s Eye View to those members who prefer not to receive it digitally.
