Tbird Club Tours the Botanical Gardens
A couple of our members graciously volunteered to organize a two-club tour of the Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, an area just north of San Diego. It was super fun and we had a great turnout, despite the sketchy weather! Thank you, Carol and Gary*!
Even though California has been storming the last few days, the clouds parted and we had a moment of sunshine for our Sunday afternoon. Five Thunderbirds braved the weather along with about 30 club members (in other vehicles!) from the San Diego Thunderbird Club and the Early Birds of Southern California. Gary and Carol were members of the latter for many years when they were living in Los Angeles.
After about 30 minutes of chatting and admiring the Birds in the sunshine, the San Diego club huddled together to discuss club jackets, logo design refreshes, and embroidery options. Alan, a former president, discussed some original digital art that the club owned that members could take advantage of. More on that to come!
Once our quick club business was complete, we had several docents show us around the 40 acre garden, which, because of all the recent rains, had a lot of growth and abundance of flowers. The dragon trees, fishtail palms, and orchids were a big hit. One docent was particularly exited to show off the edible garden.
The sun glinted off the Pacific from several viewpoints. As we were wrapping up, a few drops of rain hit the pavement and we all hit the road.
Our next meeting is at a lunch spot in Clairemont Mesa, central San Diego, near the 805. Be on the lookout for the club newsletter (delivered to members) for details. First timers can request the location.
*Gary says Carol did most of the planning and coordinating and he was a supporting actor. :)
