CTSD Member Wins First in Class at Main Street America Car Show in San Diego

The Classic Thunderbirds of San Diego were well represented at the 25th annual Main Street America car show seaside at the Embarcadero in San Diego today. We had seven (7!) Baby Birds represent the club: one 55 black, one 56 yellow, and five 1957s. We had another 56 red nearby, not from the club, and a 63 Thunderbird, too. That 7 is a great number; we have been a little slow in our recovery to events since Covid started.

We all arrived just before 8:30 AM PST and rolled onto the grass near Seaport Village. We had a great view of the San Diego bay with welcome sea breezes and big shady trees. David, our president, brought additional shade with a pop-up, and everyone set out their chairs. Some of the cars were running hot in the lineup for the park, but all seemed fine once we settled in (not exactly all, we found out later).

Many of us grabbed our voting ballots and walked the show to vote for our favorites. The show is hosted by the Corvette Owners Club, with more than 30% of the cars being Corvettes. But there were also many Miatas, Impalas, Packards, Mustangs, and more classics, including a beautiful black 1969 Opel.

One member, Sam, won a model kit from the raffle. And our very own CTSD treasurer, Mitch, won First in Class for his 1957 gunmetal gray Thunderbird. He inherited this car from his father-in-law and had it restored in his honor.

Later, we discovered that two members had mechanical issues on arrival and had to be trailered home for some TLC. We hope their Bird recovers quickly and easily! (We missed you Carol and Gary!)

Thanks to David, Anna, Michael, Jack, Bob, Celia, Alvin, Stacy, Mitch, Bill, Dee, Sharon, Shelly, Gary, and friends and family for showing up and making this a great day!
