Tbirds Fly to Coronado for Motorcars on Mainstreet
1955-56 Thunderbirds show off their motors on a wet day in Coronado, near the beach in San Diego, CA.
A few Tbirds and members from our club braved the spring rain to attend the the 36th Annual MotorCars on MainStreet in Coronado! Bill and Marsi made fruit salad and brewed a pot of coffee and Jeff brought donuts to welcome our members at their home, even as it started to sprinkle.
Three Classic Thunderbirds, two 1955s and a 1956, parked together and strategically wiped raindrops as the weather cleared up and the sun peaked out from time to time. It was a lightly attended show, as you can imagine, but as the day progressed, the classic car fans and friends (hello Michael and Jack!) came out to see us.
Baby Bird windshield wipers work on a vacuum, when they are working, so we could understand the hesitation of members who planned to come and didn’t! Someone suggested RainX, and we found this handy article on CTCI about how the wipers work.
Thankfully, it wasn’t too cold to too wet overall, and there are lots of great places for lunch in Coronado.
Everyone drove home safely on the wet streets, and we were spared the heaviest of the rain that came later that day. Sometimes, a few clouds can turn a regular car show into an adventure! But we still hope for sunshine at our next two car shows, the Garden of Innocence in Sorrento Valley, and Main Street America at the Embarcadero, bayside downtown San Diego. Hope to see more Birds there!
