Tbirds and Early Fords Cruise Coastal San Diego to Honor Veterans with Roses

Memorial Day Cruise to Fort Rosecrans

On Saturday May 27th, 2023, 15 vehicles and many more members from the Classic Thunderbirds and the Early Ford V-8 clubs in San Diego had the privilege of driving into Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, California, to honor our U.S. veterans, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedom we enjoy today.

The May gray sky befitted the sobering view of the more than 100,000 gravesites that uniformly line the rolling hillsides.

John Davison organized the event; he mapped out a beautiful route from Mission Bay to Cabrillo Monument. As usual, the sight of our Classic Tbird and Ford caravan, which was led by John’s iconic red Ford truck flying the American and Military Flags, brought smiles to people all along the route.

After placing 100 long stem red roses at gravesites and memorials, the group headed to Cabrillo National Monument for a picnic lunch and an opportunity to enjoy the great company.

Despite the overcast skies of coastal San Diego, the views were spectacular. You could see from the Coronado Islands to the west all the way to Cuyamaca peak in the east.

Overall, it was a great way to kick off the Memorial Day weekend!

(With many thanks to Tbird club member and newsletter editor Elaine V for this write-up and the photos!)
