CTSD Tbird Members Take Home Three Trophies!

Three of our Classic Thunderbirds of San Diego members, plus one non-member, took home trophies this year at the Main Street car show!

We had more than a dozen Thunderbirds and members attend the sold-out 26th annual Main Street America People’s Choice Charity Car Show at Embarcadero Marina Park North, near Seaport Village on Saturday, July 29, 2025. This car show is hosted by the Corvette Owners Club of San Diego, which leverages the show to raise funds for the San Diego Center for the Blind. Last year they raised $25,000.

Classic Thunderbirds of San Diego, California

It took a little longer than usual to get us to our reserved spot at the far end of the peninsula, and overheating was a concern, but the placement was worth it.

A Dozen Thunderbirds in All

Ten 55-57 Tbirds (9 members) lined the edge of the bay on the grass with gorgeous views of downtown San Diego and the back of the Rady Shell. Another member was in “overflow” parking (top of the hill, not too shabby!) with his 62 Thunderbird; one was in the Best of the Best section; and another member was parked in the Crown Victoria class section.

Our members David and Lori, introduced their “brand new” 1955 white on red Baby Bird with matching club Tshirts; they have been members with their immaculate 1960 Tbird, which they sadly now have to sell. Congratulations on the addition to the family, David and Lori!

Jeff L has a new “sit comfortably on the deck” rig on his 55 Thunderbird, and he generously encouraged passers-by to get their photo taken in his TBird.

Weather was pleasantly cool and overcast in the morning with sunshine all afternoon long. The day flew by as CTSD members, friends, and family came by to chat in the shade, while tourists and San Diegans alike came by to admire our Thunderbirds. Most of the CTSD board members were in attendance, so we had an open board meeting, where members were present, instead of our usual Zoom.

Congratulations go to Jim W, for his 1957 Thunderbird Best of the Best award, Geoff W, for his 1957 Thunderbird Best of Class award, and Sam B, for the award for his 1955 Crown Victoria. One other Thunderbird, a new owner and not a member (yet) won a People’s Choice Award, too.

“Friendliest Car Club Ever”

At the show, one of our members was overheard saying something like, “I’ve been a part of many car clubs over the years, and this [CTSD] by far, is the friendliest.” Makes me smile to hear that!

A past club member rejoined the club on the spot (welcome back, Ed!), and we had an original Tbird owner in attendance too, with his more-beautiful-every-day ‘57 dusty rose Thunderbird. Great seeing you Alvin and Stacy!

Part of being in the show was lunch, a choice of hotdog or brat with all the fixings, or a salad, plus chips and soda. They also had coffee and sweets available, and music playing all day. Thankfully, we were not too close to the speakers, so we could chat freely. Nearby, at Sea Port Village, there are coffee shops and restaurants too, and a few members walked over for gelato.

Overall, a beautiful day with impressive classic cars, and wonderful people. We all look forward to seeing you the next one.
